Psoriasis is a skin disease. It looks like red, dry, scaly patches on the skin. These are known as “lesions”. From when it first appears, it can last the rest of the person’s life, with periods of relative calm and other “flairs” when it is worse. It can be anywhere on the body, and can appear at any age.

Is Coal Tar An Effective Psoriasis Cure?

For many years coal tar has been used as a topical preparation to treat psoriasis. Unfortunately, in recent years the use of coal tar has been discouraged because it’s thought to contain possible carcinogens (cancer causing properties). I will look at the evidence and consider whether coal tar is as an effective psoriasis cure and whether it’s a safe treatment option.
